Inquiry: Reflection Paper

‘It is not sufficient to have an experience in order to learn. Without reflecting on this experience it may quickly be forgotten, or its learning potential lost.’ (Gibbs, 1988, p9)

Now that you have shared your podcast, I would like you to spend some time thinking about the experience of creating it. You will use these thoughts to write a reflection paper of 500-700 words.

Your paper will be expository. You learned how to write an expository essay in Module 1.

Use the following questions to guide your response:

  • What did you learn?

  • What went well?

  • What challenges did you face?

  • Where you able to overcome them? If so, how?

  • If you had a chance to do it again, what would you do differently?

The introduction of your paper is where you should identify any expectations you had for the experience at the start. At the end of your introduction, you should include a single sentence that quickly explains your transition from your expectations to your final conclusion. You could structure a reflection thesis along the following lines: “From this experience, I learned...”

Your body paragraphs should address the questions above, using specific details for support. Each question should have a separate paragraph, and each paragraph should have its own topic sentence.

Conclude with a summary. Your conclusion should succinctly describe the overall lesson, feeling, or understanding you got as a result of the experience.

Before submitting your paper, please carefully check your use of transitions, sentence structure, spelling and grammar.
