Terms reviewed today:

Pun: a joke exploiting the different possible meanings of a word or the fact that there are words that sound alike but have different meanings. "You can make your own antifreeze by stealing her blanket."

Cliche: a phrase or opinion that is overused and betrays a lack of original thought. "One man's meat is another man's poison.”

Euphemism:a mild or indirect word or expression substituted for one considered to be too harsh or blunt when referring to something unpleasant or embarrassing. "He passed away." (dead)

Parable: a simple story used to illustrate a moral or spiritual lesson. The parable of the prodigal son.

Allegory: a story, poem, or picture that can be interpreted to reveal a hidden meaning, typically a moral or political one. The Hunger Games

Analogy: a comparison between two things, typically on the basis of their structure and for the purpose of explanation or clarification. The brain and a computer.

Juxtaposition:

the fact of two things being seen or placed close together with contrasting effect.
