The Narrative Essay

Today we will be looking at point of view as one of the final pieces before we explore the narrative essay.

Point of View (Narrative Voice)

Who tells the story.

There are advantages and disadvantages to each point of view.

Omniscient • all-knowing • third person “he, she, they” • can go anywhere and tell us any character’s thoughts and feelings

Limited Omniscient • third person • shares one person’s experiences

First Person • “I” • character tells the story

Objective - camera Subjective - emotion
