You will start today with a group discussion of A Pair of Silk Stockings by Kate Chopin. Please use your highlighted quotes and notes as part of your discussion. Remember that you are deciding if Mrs. Sommers is a dynamic or static character. To be able to support your stance, you should have identified some character traits (with support from the text). The link to the list below will be helpful to you not only for this piece, but also for the next.

Following your discussion, you will then be reading The Heart of a Peacock by Emily Carr. The link will take you to a provincial exam from November 1999. You can scroll through to page 25 to find a copy of the short story. I will also be providing you with a paper copy so that you can highlight quotes and add notes. Your task, again, is to determine if the peacock is a dynamic or static character. Look for traits and proof. I would also like you to attempt the multiple choice questions on pages 8 and 9. You can work on these in a group. Question 22 should be the only really challenging one for you. Definitions of both metonomy and apostrophe can be found in poetry terms. Following your analysis of the story, please, as you did with A Pair of Silk Stockings, discuss your findings.
